THE DOCTOR IS IN

David Bernell is an Associate Professor of Political Science in the School of Public Policy at Oregon State University, and the Coordinator of the Energy Policy concentration in the Master’s and Ph.D. in Public Policy. His also serves as a consultant on a variety of energy market and policy projects, including market research, renewable energy procurement, policy analysis, and requests for funding. 

Dr. Bernell's research and teaching focus on US energy policy, energy security, and international relations. He is the author of the books The Energy Security Dilemma: US Policy and Practice, and Constructing US Foreign Policy: The Curious Case of Cuba. He formerly served with the US Office of Management and Budget in the Natural Resources, Energy, Science and Water divisions; and with the US Department of the Interior as an Advisor on Trade and the Environment. 

Dr. Bernell earned his Ph.D. and M.A in Political Science at Johns Hopkins University, and his B.A. at the University of New Mexico. He lives in Corvallis, Oregon with his wife Steph and his sons Eli and Miles.
